Bolton Wanderers set target for next season amid League One play-off ambitions chase

Ian Evatt says Bolton Wanderers are fully focused on reaching the League One play-offs this season but admits the club will move on to next campaign if the form earlier in the season ends up costing them in their quest for the top six.

Wanderers are eight points from the top six in the third tier of English football heading into tomorrow's clash on the road against Gillingham.

They have won eight of their last 11 games in the division but are heading to take on the Gills on the back of a loss on the road against MK Dons.

Wanderers have come from the bottom half of the table to put themselves in the conversation for reaching the play-offs, but have a slim margin for error as they sit 11th in the standings and there are several teams in the race to make the top six between now and the end of April.

Bolton had a mid-season blip in form which has perhaps given them too much to do heading into the final stretch of the campaign.

Evatt has set Wanderers a points target to reach this season which he has kept in house and hopes that will be enough for them to make the play-offs and the focus is on that.

But if Wanderers do end up ultimately falling short of their aim this campaign, then Evatt vows Bolton will move on and prepare to go again next campiagn.

Evatt told the Manchester Evening News: "I’ve set the players a target. They know what they need to do, it’s just made it more difficult.

"One of the games we had where we could afford not to win, that’s now gone so there’s one less of those and the wins are still the same.

"We’ve got to go about our business and make sure we go on a mini run again.

"Our standards and professionalism will not allow us to take our foot off the gas.

"We have set a points target that we want to get to, and that might not be good enough by the way because teams are picking up points above us and there are lots of teams in competition, lots of good teams and big teams.

"If we don’t make it we will hold our hands up and say, ‘there have been stages of the season where we’ve let ourselves down and that’s cost us dearly, but we’re moving on and looking forward to next season’.

"But for now we are fully focused on achieving that target and that means winning games consistently. That starts on Saturday."
