Boeing is reworking misdrilled holes on about 50 undelivered 737 Max jets, the latest quality setback that could slow deliveries.
The Dow Jones aerospace giant said a supplier's employee discovered the error. While Boeing didn't identify the supplier, Spirit AeroSystems supplied the fuselages.
Boeing said existing 737 Max jets can keep flying.
The jet maker is stepping up production quality efforts in the wake of the Jan. 5 midair incident in which part of a 737 Max 9 fuselage blew off during an Alaska Airlines flight. That led the Federal Aviation Administration to ground the 737 Max 9 for several weeks and later halt Boeing's plans to expand 737 Max production capacity. The FAA also is stepping up production oversight.
