Body recovered from water after woman goes missing in river

A BODY has been recovered from a river after a woman was spotted entering the water.

Emergency services launched a search on Friday evening following reports a woman entered the River Leven in Dumbarton at around 9pm.

The search was stood down on Friday night and resumed on Saturday.

Police have now confirmed that the body of a 47-year-old woman was recovered from the water at around 3.20pm on Saturday.

She has been formally identified and her next of kin is aware.

Police said her death is being treated as unexplained, but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The body of a 47-year-old woman was recovered from the River Leven around 3.20pm on Saturday, 20 September, 2025 following searches.

"She has been formally identified and her next of kin is aware.

"Her death is being treated as unexplained however, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
