Body of man found in yard in Cork as gardai launch investigation into tragic incident

Gardai have launched an investigation after a man's body was found in a yard in Cork.

The body was discovered earlier this morning behind houses in the city centre.

The dead man is understood to originally be from the Northside of the city.

Officers from the forensics units remain on the scene on Dunbar Street, near St Finbarr's Church.

His family have been informed and several family members visited the scene of his death this morning after getting the tragic news, CorkBeo report.

Gardai are believed to be currently treating the investigation as open - the man sustained serious injuries which could have been caused by a fall. He was found in the enclosed rear yard of a terraced house.

A garda spokesperson told CorkBeo: "Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a body in unexplained circumstances this morning Monday 31st January on Dunbar Street in Cork City."

"At approximately 10.15am, Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of the body of a man discovered lying at the rear of a property on Dunbar Street. The body remains at the scene."

"The scene is currently preserved and the Garda Technical Bureau are conducting a technical examination. The services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.

"The results the post-mortem examination will determine the course of the Garda investigation."
