The body of an Iranian man missing since the inflatable tour boat he was in overturned in a canal in Phangnga on Tuesday was found on Wednesday.
The Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office said the dead man was found in Klong Ra in Muang district of the southern province.
Ukrit Deethongon, head of the Song Phraek waterfall wildlife sanctuary, posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday that five tourists and two oarsmen were on a rafting tour when their inflatable boat struck a large rock at around 3pm on Tuesday. It then slammed into the pillar of a bridge across the canal and capsized.
All on board were thrown into the water except for the Iranian man, whose leg became entangled in a rope, trapping him on the boat. When the boat got stuck in rocks and local residents pulled it onshore, however, there was no sign of the tourist, who had apparently been swept away by the strong current.
At around 9am on Wednesday, his body was found about 7 kilometres downstream, said Mr Ukrit, who led a team to search for the missing tourist. He was identified as Javad Bemzadifar, 42.
