The body of an elderly woman has been found on an Ayrshire beach, police have confirmed.
Ayrshire Live reported earlier this morning that Troon beach has been sealed off to the public while a large number of officers probe the shore.
South Beach car park was also taped off and closed to residents and visitors as officers tended to the scene.
Police Scotland have now confirmed that a body was found in the early hours of this morning at the beach at Crosbie Road, following “the sudden death of an elderly woman.”
Her death is currently being treated as unexplained.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the beach at Crosbie Road in Troon around 6.50am on Tuesday, April 18 following the sudden death of an elderly woman.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
