Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses and information after a body was found in suburban Alice Springs late yesterday afternoon.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Toby Wilson said the 92-year-old Eastside resident, who was known to have dementia, was reported missing by his wife earlier in the day.

"At about 12:20pm yesterday, the man's wife discovered that he was missing from the front of their residence," he said.

"She had last seen him standing outside the front of their house in the driveway."

Acting Senior Sergeant Wilson said the man's wife conducted a search in the immediate area and then called police about 1:30pm when she was unable to locate him.

"Northern Territory Police conducted an extensive search of the area involving general duties, traffic operations and a specialist search coordinator, assisted by a drone," he said.

The man's body was found by police at 3:30pm on a path between Burke Street and Cavenagh Crescent in Old Eastside.

"A crime scene was declared and forensic examiners conducted examinations of the scene," Acting Senior Sergeant Wilson said.

"The Criminal Investigation Branch were contacted and inquiries commenced, including [a] doorknock of the area."

He said the man had suffered some injuries but his death was not, at this stage, considered suspicious.

He said an autopsy would be conducted next week by a pathologist.

"Police have had some information passed on from the public and we appreciate their assistance.

"Detectives have managed to identify and locate [private residence] CCTV in the area and [are] in the process of reviewing [it]."

Police are urging anyone with information to call 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if they have any information.
