Officers investigating the alleged murder of former Scots teacher Peter Coshan, 75, have recovered a body in Northumberland. A man's remains were found on land close to the A696, near the village of Kirkwhelpington, on Sunday, September 4.
The man is yet to be identified, but Mr Coshan's family have been informed. A probe was launched following the disappearance of the retired Fettes College teacher in the Seafield Road area of Edinburgh.
The former biology teacher, who taught at the school in the city until 2005, was last seen at about 11.50pm on Thursday, August 11. Two men have appeared in court charged with Mr Coshan's murder.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Patrick, of Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team, said: "Our thoughts remain with Peter’s family at this incredibly difficult time and we are continuing to provide them with support.
“I would like to take the opportunity to pass on our thanks to everyone who has come forward with information which has helped our investigation.”
We previously told how two men, aged 27 and 63, have previously been arrested and charged in connection. Both have already appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
Paul Black, 63, and Paul McNaughton, 27, made no plea to a charge that they murdered the teacher. Both will appear in court again at a later date.
