Body found in Scots river amid search for missing man Evan Reid

Police have discovered a body in a Paisley river amid the search for missing Scots man Evan Reid.

Officers were called to an area of the White Cart Water near Arran Avenue in the Renfrewshire town shortly before 10am on Monday April 10 after a body was reported in the stream. While it has not been identified, officers say they have informed the family of Mr Reid, 31, who was reported missing on Saturday March 25.

Mr Reid had last been seen on a train home to Irvine, Ayrshire after a night out in Glasgow, but got off at Paisley Gilmour Street in an "agitated" state. Police say there are "no apparent suspicious circumstances" and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal, as is standard procedure in all sudden and unexplained deaths in Scotland.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The body of a man was found in the White Cart Water near Arran Avenue in Paisley around 9.55am on Monday, 10 April. He is still to be formally identified but the family of Evan Reid, 31, who had been reported missing on Friday, 25 March have been made aware.

"There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."

Friends and family of the dad-of-one had urged Mr Reid to get in touch after he went missing. Police spoke to over 150 people regarding his disappearance.

His partner, Nicole Murray, previously said she had received a text from him to say there was "something dodgy happening" before she lost contact. Mr Reid is not believed to have known anyone in Paisley or had any connection to the area.

She detailed in a social media post: "This is completely out of character for him, especially to have been on his way home and then get off at another station. He was in Glasgow on a night out.

"He text me to say he was getting the train home. He said to me [in a text] there was something happening, something dodgy was happening. I didn’t know then that he was on the train already."
