A body has been found in the search for an elderly man missing for more than five weeks. Vivian Davies was last seen on Sunday, May 21, after going out for a walk in the Cwmafan area of Port Talbot. After weeks of searching, including several searches organised by members of the public, South Wales Police confirmed on Wednesday, June 28, that a man's body had been found.
The 87-year-old was last seen on Maes Ty Canol, Baglan and it was thought he may have walked to the Mynydd Dinas area or the Jersey Park "incline". Police said that specialist search team officers found a body in a remote area of Cwmafan on Wednesday afternoon.
While formal identification has yet to take place a police spokesman said Mr Davies' family have been informed. Family members have been sharing the update on social media.
South Wales Police chief inspector James Ratti said: “I would like to thank all those who gave up their time to come out and help with the search for Vivian and to those that called in with information. It was a testament to the community of Neath Port Talbot and I’m sure their thoughts, along with ours, are with Vivian’s family at this time.”
