Body discovered in rubble of Red Cliffs house fire overnight

A body has been found in the rubble of a house fire at Red Cliffs, south of Mildura in Victoria's north west overnight.

Emergency services were called to the fire at a rural property in Trioda Street about 2am.

Police said a body had been found inside the burnt-out home, believed to be that of the occupant of the home.

Mildura CFA commander Rob McNally said the body was found about 5am.

Ten firefighting crews from the Sunraysia region and New South Wales took 45 minutes to control the blaze.

A crime scene has been set up and detectives from Mildura are investigating.

Fire investigators including an arson chemist will attend the scene this morning to determine the cause of the blaze.

"At some stage today they will have their investigation teams thoroughly comb the site and prepare a report from there," Mr McNally said.
