This outstanding achievement not only earned Finke the gold but also saw him shatter the previous world record of 14:31.02, which was set by China's Sun Yang back in 2012.
Throughout the race, Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy proved to be a formidable competitor, matching Finke's pace and even swimming at times at a world record pace himself. However, despite his impressive efforts, Paltrinieri fell short of catching Finke and had to settle for the silver medal, finishing 3.88 seconds behind the American.
