Bob Mortimer's quiet life in Tunbridge Wells and favourite spot for nap in his car

Bob Mortimer has made no secret of having had his fair share of health issues, including undergoing triple heart bypass surgery some years ago, which changed his life.

The comedian, 63 – who had a health scare just last month – had the surgery back in 2015, with it understood to have come after doctors had found his arteries were blocked.

He has since revealed that the issue with his heart led him to take hour-long naps in his car due to discomfort – though he no longer has the habit after the procedure.

Bob opened up about the habit on an episode of Jools and Jim's Joyride podcast, which is hosted by his comedy partner Vic Reeves, 63, and presenter Jools Holland, 64.

Discussing taking naps in his car, he explained: "Since my heart op, I don't do it." He added that he used to feel discomfort in the afternoon "partly" due to his heart.

It was revealed on the podcast last year that Bob kept a pillow and a duvet in his car so that he could park up and take naps – which he said were never longer than two hours.

The comedian explained that it can be "quite hard" to find somewhere suitable for the habit, though he did find a "perfect" spot in Kent, which is where he lives.

Sharing the location of his favourite spot, he said: "I found somewhere near the Cineworld in Tunbridge Wells which was perfection." He said that it was a large car park.

Bob – who currently stars in Gone Fishing with fellow comedian Paul Whitehouse, 64 – further stated on the podcast that a car is a "place of great comfort" for himself.

His pal Vic even recalled having seen him sleeping in a vehicle once. He said: "I remember finding you once in a car park asleep in the backseat". He teased that Bob had his thumb in his mouth.

As well as no longer needing to take afternoon naps since having the heart surgery, Bob has previously said that the experience also changed his perspective on life.

According to KentLive, comedy duo Bob and Vic both live in Kent. The outlet reports that the former now lives in Tunbridge Wells, whilst his pal is said to live in Charing.

The outlet states that Bob – who grew up in Middlesbrough – had previously lived near Charing himself, having once resided in the Grade I listed Pett Place in the area.

He lives in the county with his wife Lisa Mortimer, with whom he has two children. Father-of-four Vic lives with his wife Nancy Sorrell, with whom he has two kids.
