Another side of Bob Dylan is coming to bookstores this year.
Dylan’s second book, “The Philosophy of Modern Song,” will be released in November.
A generation of Dylan fans has been awaiting his second book for 18 years following 2004′s “Chronicles, Volume One.” While Dylan, 80, teased a “Chronicles, Volume Two” in more ways than one in the intervening years, he apparently decided on a different direction.
“‘The Philosophy of Modern Song’ could only have been written by Bob Dylan,” said publisher Simon & Schuster’s CEO Jonathan Karp in a press release. “His voice is unique, and his work conveys his deep appreciation and understanding of songs, the people who bring those songs to life, and what songs mean to all of us.”
Dylan’s newest composition has been in the works since 2010, according to Simon & Schuster. It’s a combination of more than 60 essays on important music from a variety of artists, including Nina Simone, Elvis Costello, Stephen Foster and Hank Williams.
“Chronicles, Volume One” spent almost a year on the New York Times bestseller list. In 2016, Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature for “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”
The singer will also narrate a portion of the audiobook for “The Philosophy of Modern Song,” which will go on sale Nov. 8.
Dylan currently on tour is up for a Grammy next month for best musical theater album for the cast recording of “Girl From the North Country.”
