Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix impressed the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Following a 16-14 Kansas City victory, Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton said Nix is “definitely going to be a challenge” to face going forward. KC quarterback Patrick Mahomes also delivered a positive review of the rookie.
During his Wednesday press conference, Broncos coach Sean Payton revealed that Mahomes told him “You got one” after the game, referencing Nix. The rookie quarterback was asked about that comment on Wednesday.
“That kind of stuff is awesome,” Nix said. “That’s a fortunate part of playing the game and competing against these guys that have been doing it on the stage for so long. It’s an honor, but at the same time, those are the games that you have to continue to play and continue to compete in and ultimately win.
“You get guys like that, their respect. Then when you get their respect, it’s just kind of a special thing for you. It’s not something to be complacent about, but it’s definitely — you feel like you’re on the right track and you’re doing the right things.”
Nix went toe to toe with Mahomes on Sunday and they’re scheduled to face off again when the Broncos host the Chiefs in Week 18. Gaining the respect of Mahomes is great. Now the next step for Nix is to beat him.
