BMW Does BMW Things, Runs Red Light, Clobbers Motorcycle Rider

You don't need to see dashcam videos from halfway around the world to know that sometimes, people drive extremely poorly.

There are a number of reasons for this. Maybe they're just bad at it, or they're not paying attention, or they're having a bad day. And on a personal level, the reasons why matter. But for the person whose day or life (in some cases) they ruin, does that reason even make a difference?

Take this case, where earlier in November, a BMW driver ran a red light and crossed a busy road in Singapore. From the dashcam footage shown here, it's clear that at least two vehicles saw the BMW coming and were able to stop in time. Unfortunately for the hapless rider that you see in the screenshot just a few seconds before the hit, they clearly weren't able to clock what was about to happen to them.

From this viewing angle, it's not totally clear whether the rider had a clear, unobstructed view to their left to even see the BMW coming on the periphery. To me, it looks like the blue pickup truck and the SUV going in the same direction and located in the two lanes to the left of the rider could possibly have blocked the rider's view.

But of course, it shouldn't even have mattered, because the BMW should have safely stopped at their stop line since they had a red light. To make matters even worse, after completely taking out this rider, the BMW just keeps going like nothing even happened. I mean, they didn't even so much as pause.

Who does that? Yeah, I know hit-and-runs happen all the time. Did the driver even realize what they did, or not care, or what? We'll probably never know.

At least the traffic behind and around the rider stopped and didn't just keep going and make the situation worse. We don't know what happened after this incident, but it's one more good argument in favor of having a dashcam setup on whatever vehicle you're rolling on (or in), just in case.
