MUMBAI: After residents of sea-facing buildings in Marine Drive resisted spending money over getting the facade of their buildings illuminated with colours of the Indian flag, BMC has decided to spend from its own budget to get these heritage structures illuminated. Ahead of Independence Day BMC will spend Rs 47 lakh to get 28 buildings illuminated along the seafront.
Around a fortnight ago, BMC, had appealed to buildings along Marine Drive, to be decorated with Tricolour LED lighting from August 13-15 to celebrate the diamond jubilee year of Indian Independence. However, residents of these art decor buildings would have to shell out over Rs 1 lakh to get their buildings illuminated for three days. They had indicated to BMC that paying up of such a large amounts may not be feasible for them.
