BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has so far collected and recycled 8.6 metric tonnes of electronic waste (e-waste) under its waste to wealth programme launched in September last year.
The civic body has collected nearly Rs 1,74,250 by auctioning the bulk of e-waste that was given to the registered recycler (registered with the state pollution control board) to recycle and process. BMC officials said they will invest the auction amount in sanitation activities, which is the aim of the waste to wealth initiative.
As per the agreement with BMC, the registered recycler took the waste through competitive bidding as multiple recyclers had participated.
