The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is ready to appeal the Green Line case if the Administrative Court rules in favour of Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc (BTSC) on Wednesday, according to Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt.
Last year, the BTSC filed a lawsuit with the Administrative Court over a 12-billion-baht debt which it claims the BMA and its business arm Krungthep Thanakhom (KT) owe for operating the Green Line extensions since April 2017.
The extensions are Bearing-Kheha and Mo Chit-Saphan Mai-Khu Khot.
The plaintiff sought a court order against the defendants alleging failure to fulfil the agreed operation and maintenance contract on May, 2012, in addition to City Hall's failure to settle the debt as agreed on Dec 12, 2019.
The court hearing is set for 11am on Wednesday.
Mr Chadchart said the BMA will appeal, if it deems the decision unfair, as public money is at stake.
"We need to assure fairness for all parties including BTSC and all people.
"Plus we must thoroughly check before spending money as it is tax paid by the people," said Mr Chadchart.
Meanwhile, a source said the fare rate for the second-phase extensions will start at 14 baht, rising by two baht per stop, with the maximum per trip capped at 44 baht.
The proposal will be submitted to the Bangkok Metropolitan Council to consider at a hearing expected to take place this month, the said added.
In a separate development, government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said construction of the Orange, Pink and Yellow mass transit lines is about 90% complete now.
The Orange Line will link the Cultural Centre and Min Buri, while the Pink Line will link Khae Rai and Min Buri.
The Yellow Line is set to run from Lat Phrao in Bangkok to Samrong in Samut Prakan province.
A trial run for the Yellow and Pink lines will begin this month ahead of a full commercial launch next year.
