The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is pushing to rid Bangkok of amphetamines following the child centre massacre in Nong Bua Lam Phu.
Bankok governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the tragedy on Thursday has jolted the city into taking greater responsibility and precautions to prevent a similar bloodshed in Bangkok. "Don't think we're immune (to such an attack). There could be copycat behaviour," the governor said.
Mr Chadchart said no strangers must be allowed to enter school premises and an alarm system should be put in place for when untoward incidents occur.
The root cause of the child care centre shooting may stem from illicit drugs and the acquisition of firearms, the governor said. The killer, former Pol Sgt Panya Khamrab, was booted from the force on June 15 for possession of methamphetamine pills. The mass killing on Thursday left 37 people, including many children, dead.
Mr Chadchart said someone under the influence of drugs should exhibit signs that can serve as an alert to others.
