A police probe has been launched after a blood-soaked man was found looking like he had been 'hacked with a machete' in Glasgow last night.
The 35-year-old injured man was found pleading for help and begging people to call the cops on Shettleston Road, near Parkhead, at around around 7.10pm.
Eyewitnesses told Glasgow Live he had his football top rolled up exposing horrific wounds in his back and shoulders.
Police raced to the scene with around eight police cars turning up and the close was cordoned off.
An ambulance was also dispatched and the man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Tiles on the inside of the close were streaked with blood and the pavement outside was covered in it.
The witness said: "It was horrific, the man was trying to get people's attention outside a close. He was covered in blood and trying to gesture to the wounds on his back.
"He looked really frightened, I said I'd call an ambulance and he was asking for police.
"His trackies were covered in blood and it was smeared on his face as well and the wounds on his back were horrific.
"People wanted to help but also gave him a wide berth because it is scary, the 999 call handler was asking 'is the attacker still in the area'. It looked like he'd been hacked with a machete, I told the 999 call handler that.
"If it wasn't a machete it was some other bladed weapon, it looked like he had been hacked rather than stabbed.
"Two police officers bundled him inside the close and then it turned into a massive crime scene, about eight police cars turned up then an ambulance.
"It is so scary seeing that because 7pm isn't late and there were loads of people around."
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Around 7.10pm on Saturday, October, 9 police received a report a man had been seriously assaulted in Shettleston Road, Glasgow.
"Emergency services attended and a 35-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
