Blood donation camp in Mysuru

A mega blood donation campaign was organised by Manipal Hospital in association with Jeevadhara Blood Bank at five different locations in the city to mark the World Health Day recently.

More than 250 people donated blood at Forum Centre City Mall, MIT College, Manipal City Clinic above Excel Diagnostic Centre, Saraswathipuram and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board premises, besides Manipal Hospital premises.

The aim of the campaign was to encourage people to cater to the requirement of blood.

Every month hundreds of units of packed red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma and platelets are required by the hospitals. “As blood can only be donated and not manufactured, bridging the gap between the donor and recipient was of utmost importance”, a statement said.

Director of Manipal Hospital, Mysuru, Gautam Das, said the donated blood is regenerated by the body in 4 to 8 weeks’ time.

Managing Director of Jeevadhara Blood Bank Girish sought to clarify the doubts over blood donation in view of COVID-19 pandemic. However, most people are eligible to donate blood 14 days after showing no symptoms, he said.

Centre Head of Forum City Centre Mall Dhanasekaran Ramachandran said blood donation was a noble act and appealed to people to donate blood.
