Blackpool Zoo is looking to pay people to dress up in inflatable bird outfits as 'seagull deterrents'

If you’ve ever fancied walking around in an inflatable bird outfit and ‘deterring’ away nuisance seagulls, then you could be the perfect candidate for a new job listed at Blackpool Zoo.

The popular seaside zoo is currently advertising a ‘seagull deterrent’ role to help clear away pesky seagulls who have garnered a reputation for stealing food from customers and the animal enclosures.

The role, which would be housed within the zoo’s Visitor Services team, will involve someone dressing up in the inflatable costume and keeping seagulls away from the main visitor dining areas.

Blackpool Zoo says the ideal candidate will be visitor focused, friendly, energetic, flexible and outgoing. Of course, they will also need to be prepared to wear the bird costume.

Lancs Live reports that the role will be offered with variable seasonal hours.

The full job advert reads: "At Blackpool Zoo it goes without saying that we love all animals! And as a seaside resort, Blackpool is not short of seagulls.

"However, the seagulls are proving to be a bit of a nuisance when it comes to trying to steal food from our visitors and our animal enclosures! We need to do what we can to keep the seagulls away from our main visitor dining areas, which is why we are looking for a team of people to join our Visitor Services team as ‘Seagull Deterrents’.

Blackpool Zoo recently announced that its new £1.5m big cat facility is nearing completion and African lion Khari, who has been temporarily looked after at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, will return in May.

A new £100k penguin habitat, named Penguin Cove, also recently opened which features a brand-new ‘improved and extended’ beach area alongside nest boxes and pools.
