Terrified thrill seekers have been left stranded on the biggest roller-coaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach after the ride reportedly broke down.
The cart carrying passengers at rapid speed along the icon tracks of the Big One came to a halt on the tracks this afternoon shortly before 2pm.
One eye-witness has told LancsLive they believe that the ride has broken down. They said: "I spotted passengers from a car on the big one stationary on the platform near the end of the ride getting out of their seats. The ride appears to be broken down."
Paramedics and the fire service confirmed they were not called to the scene.
It's understood the people stuck on the ride were moved to safety .
The Big One - or Pepsi Max - ride at Pleasure Beach whizzes passengers at speeds of 85mph around the red and blue track. The ride is notoriously known for its abrupt break downs, at times, forcing passengers to climb down the steep steps from the 230ft drop.
Images and video from the park show passengers stuck at the top one of the peaks and bends of the ride. Some even appear to be stood up, looking at their surroundings while the car is no longer moving.
One theme park expert told us: "It’s likely that it’s running on a two train service, and one train has needed to be stopped immediately before entering the station, changing a wheel perhaps, and that’s just the zone where the other train would stop should that be the case."
A spokesperson for Blackpool Pleasure Beach said: "There was a 10 minute stoppage on the ride earlier. The ride is now fully operational."
LancsLive has also contacted Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service for comment and North West Ambulance Service who confirmed they were not called to the scene.
