Blackburn United gaffer Jamie McCormick has called on his side to be more clinical at both ends of the park but admits he’s pleased with their start to the season.
United picked up a second point of the campaign as they battled back to draw 1-1 at Broxburn Athletic at the weekend.
A poor first half display, which saw them trail at the break thanks to a Craig Henderson goal, gave way to a much better display after the interval.
Laurie Devine netted the leveller in fortuitous circumstances after Richie Hutton charged down an attempted clearance from Brox keeper Shaun Donoghue.
But the visitors could have walked away with all three points had Luke Meikle been able to convert two late chances.
McCormick said: “We surrendered too much of the play in the first half and were clinging on a wee bit at half-time.
“I thought we started out fairly well but after about 15 minutes, it was really all Broxburn. They got their goal and we just needed to see that out until half-time.
“The second-half was much better. We played at a faster pace, with more aggression and we kept hold of the ball and we then got the rewards of that.
“The goal came from a mistake by them but we definitely merited a draw although I’m coming away a little bit disappointed we didn’t get more after the two late chances we had to win the game.
“We’ve had draws against Linlithgow Rose and Broxburn already this season, which I’m really happy with, but at the same time you’re wondering what might have been because we lost a late goal against Linlithgow and didn’t score late on against Broxburn.
“If we’re a wee bit more clinical at both ends we might be sitting here with six points instead of two and you hope that doesn’t come back on you at the end of the season.”
It’s a minor grievance, though, in what the boss has called a ‘positive’ start to the season.
He added: “We’ve played three very good teams so far and on the whole shown we can be there or thereabouts with them.
“We’re a young side and we’re still learning and the team will evolve over the course of the season but it’s been a really positive start. Aside from the first 30 minutes at Inverkeithing, there’s been plenty of positives to take.
“We’ve got a group of guys who are completely committed and will work hard for the team.”
