BlackBerry sold all its patents, including one for BlackBerry Messenger

BlackBerry is selling all of its phone and messaging patents for approximately $600 million. Just when you thought it was time to stop mourning the loss of the scroll wheel, too.

A press release published this week names a company called Catapult IP Innovations, a U.S.-based company that specializes in, well, owning patents. It’s actually a special purpose vehicle; it was formed specifically to buy out BlackBerry’s patents.
