Black smoke billows over Wirral after fire at fly-tipping hotspot

Black smoke was seen billowing in the sky after a large quantity of tyres were set on fire.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was called to Limekiln Lane in Poulton shortly after 12pm today, Thursday, June 16. On arrival the crew of one fire engine found a the tyres ablaze.

The fire crew used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. The incident was handed over to Merseyside Police after the crew left at 12.45pm.

Thick black smoke from the fire was seen rising above Wirral. The ECHO understands the area is is a hot-spot for fly tipping.

Merseyside Police confirmed to the ECHO officers attended the incident at around 12.15pm. The officers searched the surrounding area and found "no viable evidence or items that could be seized at the scene".
