Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is bringing back The X-Files with a diverse new cast

Blank Panther director Ryan Coogler is set to make a reboot of The X-Files complete with a diverse cast, according to a source.

Coogler, 36, is reportedly bringing back the popular sci-fi series, which initially ran from 1993 to 2002, as part of his five-year deal with Walt Disney Television.

The X-Files launched the careers of actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who starred as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, investigating monster-centric conspiracy theories from week to week.

Ryan Coogler is set to remake The X-Files, according to original creator Chris Carter (PA Wire)

The series’ original creator Chris Carter revealed on the radio show On the Coast: “I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast.

“So, he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory.”

Carter gave his own advice on the possible remake as he said the series would need to refocus and separate itself from its previous run of episodes.

The X-Files initially ran from 1993 to 2002, starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files)

He added: “We’re so steeped in conspiracies now. The X-Files dealt with a central conspiracy, but now the world is so full of conspiracies that I think that it would be a different show.”

This report comes 30 years after The X-Files made its series premiere.

After concluding its original nine-season run, the series returned along with its lead stars Duchovny, 62, and Anderson, 54, for two more seasons in 2016 and 2018. There were also two movies, released in 1998 and 2008.

Coogler made a name for himself as a director when he wrote and directed in the critically acclaimed film Fruitvale Station back in 2013, which starred Michael B. Jordan.

The filmmaker went on to write and direct the two Black Panther films under Marvel, the latter of which was released in November, and the first three Creed films, all of which also starred Jordan, 36.

Coogler also has producing credits on 2021’s Space Jam: A New Legacy and Judas and the Black Messiah, and has two Academy Award nominations for his film work.
