Black Panther 3: Everything we know about the upcoming Marvel movie

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Black Panther 3 is officially on the way, though not much is known about the Marvel threequel just yet. Still, we do have at least one confirmed cast member and some hints about what the third film might cover. That means we're starting to build a picture about our return to Wakanda.

We've been waiting a long time for Black Panther 3, too. Wakanda Forever was released way back in 2022, and the threequel still doesn't even have a release date. Before it arrives, we can expect to see Avengers: Doomsday (and potentially even Avengers: Secret Wars), which will surely shake up the MCU in ways we can't yet predict.

Below, we've broken down everything there is to know about Black Panther 3, from when the release date might be to our best guess at what the plot might cover. So, for all that and more, head below and get up to speed on one of the most exciting upcoming Marvel movies.

Does Black Panther 3 have a release date?

At the moment, there's no release date for Black Panther 3, as it's so early in the process. It could be a while longer yet until we hear anything, too.

However, director Ryan Coogler has confirmed it's his next movie. That means we're likely to see it sooner rather than later. A listing on the Film and Television Industry Alliance also says Black Panther 3 is due to start shooting in London on June 15, 2026, though that's unconfirmed for now.

Marvel has untitled release slots reserved for February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028. Black Panther 3 could well end up taking one of those dates, but we'll have to wait and see.

If it does, that would put the threequel after both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which are slated for December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027, respectively.

Black Panther 3 cast

So far, the only person confirmed to appear in Black Panther 3 is Denzel Washington. Washington himself shared that director Ryan Coogler is writing a part just for him, which Coogler later confirmed. That means the cast so far looks like this:

  • Denzel Washington

We can also expect the likes of Letitia Wright's Shuri, Danai Gurira's Okoye, Michaela Coel's Aneka, Florence Kasumba's Ayo, and Winston Duke's Mbaku to return, though a lot depends on the events of Avengers: Doomsday, which both Wright and Duke will have roles in.

Tenoch Huerta's Namor could also appear again, after being introduced to the MCU in Black Panther 2, but, again, that depends on what happens in Doomsday.

Does Black Panther 3 have a trailer?

Since it's so early, Black Panther 3 does not yet have a trailer. We can expect one to drop in the run up to release, but, since there's no release date, that's hard to predict. The first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dropped at SDCC in July 2022, and the movie released on November 11, 2022. So, we can expect a similar sort of time frame for the threequel.

Black Panther 3 plot: here's what the story could cover

After Shuri took up the mantle of Black Panther in Wakanda Forever, it seems safe to assume that she'll be back as the hero in the third movie.

This is seemingly confirmed by a listing in the Film and Industry Television Alliance, which says that the film will be titled "Shadows of Wakanda" and it "will explore Wakanda's vulnerability after T'Challa's death, with Shuri stepping up as both warrior and leader." This is unconfirmed for now, though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Predicting the plot beyond this is also difficult for a few reasons. For one thing, T'Challa's son was introduced in the Wakanda Forever post-credits scene, and we have to assume he'll have a part to play in the future of Wakanda. Plus, Shuri is in Avengers: Doomsday, and, until we know how that film shakes out, it's hard to know what situation Shuri and Wakanda might find themselves in. From the Wakanda Doomsday trailer, Shuri is still the Black Panther, M'Baku is still king, and Namor still seems to be closely tied to the nation, too.

The plot of Wakanda Forever could also offer us clues about what's to come. At the end of Black Panther 2, tensions rise between Wakanda and the rest of the world over the country's Vibranium. In Black Panther 3, this could all boil over – especially with many other countries also trying to take the nation's precious resource.

Whatever Black Panther 3 will be about, though, we can expect it to be another rock-solid entry in the MCU. According to a report from Variety, the movie is already causing internal excitement even at this very early stage. The first two Black Panther films are some of the best Marvel movies, so here's hoping the threequel matches their standard.
