Netflix has announced the return of Black Mirror and said its new season will be the “most unpredictable yet”. Fans of the show went wild on Tuesday after its official Twitter account posted its first tweet in four years, with many feeling news regarding the show’s future was imminent.
Now Netflix has confirmed that Black Mirror season six will drop this summer and unveiled its brand-new trailer. Created by writer and satirist Charlie Brooker, the sci-fi anthology series presents stand-alone dystopian stories that explore themes of contemporary techno-paranoia.
Often likened to a modern take on The Twilight Zone, it proved a huge success when it launched on Channel 4 in 2011 before moving to Netflix. Speaking to Netflix, Brooker said the latest series will contain some unexpected twists alongside the “familiar Black Mirror tropes”.

He said: “Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect. Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is.
“The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through – but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before.”
