RAIPUR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made deep inroads in tribal areas, winning 17 out of 29 seats reserved for scheduled tribes, even as the saffron party also secured four seats reserved for scheduled castes in Chhattisgarh.
With a systematic campaign and planning, the BJP managed to secure the ST/SC seats in Bastar, Surguja, and central plains, delivering a severe blow to the ruling Congress. The ruling party could only secure 11 ST seats and six SC seats. BJP swept all the tribal seats in the Surguja region where the Congress faced a complete rout in the entire region. Similarly, in Bastar, BJP candidates are much ahead in nine constituencies, reserved for the scheduled tribes.
