BJP to step up in Puducherry to face Lok Sabha polls: Union minister L Murugan

PUDUCHERRY: Union minister of state for information and broadcasting, fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying L Murugan said the BJP will launch efforts to strengthen its base in the Union territory of Puducherry to face the 2024 Lok Sabha polls successfully.

The Union minister on Tuesday participated in the mass yoga demonstration as part of International Yoga Day celebrations. He later held discussions with BJP leaders at the party office. Murugan told reporters he would visit Puducherry to attend a series of functions on July 7, 8 and 9 to enlighten people on the achievements of the BJP-led government at the centre.

"The government under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has executed several welfare and development projects in the last eight years. The government has taken all initiatives to make Puducherry the 'Best' after the Prime Minister's assurance," he said.

Murugan said the Union government evolved Agnipath military recruitment scheme for the youth in the age group between 17 and 23 years after careful consultation with army experts at different levels and stages. The scheme will help youngsters to improve their skills and education, he said.
