Congress leaders have “lost their mental balance”, the BJP said on April 4, 2024, responding to offensive remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP MP Hema Malini by leaders from the Opposition party.
Calling for support for former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel during a poll rally on Tuesday, senior Congress leader Charan Das Mahant said: “We want someone who can hold a stick and confront Narendra Modi.” Mr. Baghel is contesting from the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat.
On Wednesday, the BJP’s IT department head Amit Malviya shared an undated video on X, which purportedly shows Haryana Congress leader Randeep Surjewala making “vile, sexist” remarks against BJP MP Hema Malini. The actor-politician is contesting from the Mathura Lok Sabha seat.
‘Objectionable and indecent’
“In Chhattisgarh, Charan Das Mahant has once again used the same cheap and objectionable words against Prime Minister Modi. He said that to take on Modi, such a person is needed who can break his head by hitting with a lathi,” BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi.
“With the elections coming closer, the Congress has lost its mental balance, sensing the people’s growing support in favour of Prime Minister Modi,” he added.
Mr. Trivedi also slammed Mr. Surjewala, terming his comments against Ms. Hema Malini as “objectionable and indecent”.
“Hema Malini would be of Sonia Gandhi’s age. She is a self-made woman,” Mr. Trivedi said, asking whether Mr. Surjewala felt that his remarks against her were “appropriate.”
“The people of the country will give a reply to such insults in the Lok Sabha polls,” he added.
The Lok Sabha election will be held in seven phases between April 19 and June 1. The results will be announced on June 4.
