BJP in Chhattisgarh gears up to implement Modi's guarantees after sweeping assembly polls

RAIPUR: The BJP in Chhattisgarh is poised to begin fulfilling the promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under 'Modi ki guarantee,' said senior BJP leader and national vice-president Raman Singh, stating that the new cabinet's first challenge will be to make decisions to deliver the guarantees made to the people of the state.

A day after the BJP swept the Congress away in assembly elections securing 54 seats, Singh said that one decision taken under the 'neeyat and neeti' (right intention and policy) strategy is enough to uproot the sources of corruption. He was referring to an alleged coal levy scam that surfaced during Congress rule.

Referring to the alleged PSC recruitment scam in the state, Singh said that in just two to three years of Congress rule, it started facing serious allegations. "Investigations will be conducted into the matter as it concerns the lives of lakhs of children. The irregularities will be minutely checked and acted upon. In the coming PSC exams, we will ensure 100% transparency and guarantee that the candidates have full faith in the government; it will not do injustice to them. A government sustains when there is this much faith among people."

Speaking to reporters in the state capital after securing the Rajnandgaon assembly seat with a margin of 45,084 votes, Singh said, "We have one main thing to focus on before us, to implement 'Modi’s guarantee' by taking decisions during the first cabinet meeting and move ahead. Be it a decision to provide a bonus to farmers, proper arrangement for paddy farmers, beginning of giving Rs 1200 to women under Mahtari Vandan Yojana, swift implementation will be required. Priority will be given to the announcement made under 'Modi’s guarantee' and manifesto, from the very first day because people have shown faith in us."

Criticizing the poor work culture and corruption that took a lead in the Congress government, Singh said that the environment to work will change under BJP with the right intention and policy in place.

"For example, the alleged coal levy of Rs 25 per tonne on coal transportation imposed upon traders and the whole process made offline would need just one strategized decision to make it online again. If the government has its intention and policy right, corruption allegations cannot stick to it. I headed the mining and energy department for 15 years, and I am aware that everything remains fine with the right 'mansha, neeyat aur neeti'," Singh asserted.

Indicating changes on a large scale, Raman Singh said, "The BJP government in Chhattisgarh will bring a change in its policies, intentions, and their implementation. There will be a difference and change in the way bureaucracy works in our government, developing a clean environment and work culture. People will be able to speak and write fearlessly. When policy and intentions are in place, the whole system settles well."

On BJP’s victory, Singh said BJP was in power in Chhattisgarh for 15 years, but no one could point a finger at us. Wherever BJP forms its government, it unites the people and works together. Congress does the politics of appeasement, BJP always finds a way to ensure justice for the people, he said.

He further said that there was a clear undercurrent in Bastar and Surguja regions that made it clear that we are proceeding well in the elections and a new environment is emerging in state politics. By the time exit polls came, it indicated an increase in BJP’s seats to 30-40 seats with Congress’ falling by 28 percent. Moreover, the depression in Congress was visible as they kept changing their announcements before and after releasing the manifesto.
