Amid curiosity over the Cabinet expansion or reshuffle, the BJP Central leaders discussed the current political climate in Karnataka as the State heads into the election year and the strategy to be adopted by the party to be election ready.
During the nearly two-hour-long one-on-one discussion with BJP president J.P. Nadda, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in the BJP party office at Delhi explained the current political and social climate in the State that started with the controversy surrounding hijab in educational institutions, sources said. The strategies to be adopted in the coming months too were discussed.
"While the meeting took stock of the situation, the strategies will be finalised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, and would be discussed with the State leadership during the two-day party State executive at Hosapete starting from April 16," sources said.
Meanwhile, the sources said: "In the light of the much-awaited Cabinet expansion, the two leaders also discussed whether there should be a reshuffle or a mere expansion. Either ways, who has to be dropped and who can be accommodated in the Cabinet was discussed."
Another significant issue the two leaders are learnt to have discussed is the way in which former Minister Ramesh Jharkiholi is to be handled since he has been a strong contender for Cabinet post after he was forced to resign following telecast of an alleged sex tape.
Sources said that amid rumours of uncertainty of Mr. Bommai continuing in the post, a clear message on his continuation is likely to be given during the State executive meeting.
