A bizarre hack for making a pair of jeans bigger has gone viral and left people divided.
One woman took to TikTok to share the strange trick that she learned from her grandmother.
Calling it "sustainability hack of the year", user ‘bug318_’ explained how she had bought a pair of second hand jeans that she loved in a size 10, rather than her usual size 12.

She had hoped she would be able to squeeze into them, but when she tried them on at home they were “nice and tight and had a little roll over” so she shrugged it off as a “tough loss”.
Later on, she told her grandmother about the ordeal when she asked a peculiar question - “Have you showered in them yet?”
Describing her reaction, she told followers: “I was like, no, I haven't showered in my jeans… What are you talking about?”
She continued: “Nana was like, just trust me, shower in them, wear them around the house (while wet) to stretch them out a little bit, let them air dry and don’t put them in the dryer again.
“I was like, okay, I’m desperate. I’m in love with these jeans. So I did it last night, took a shower in them. This morning I put them on after air drying and they fit perfect!”
Showing off the perfectly-fitting jeans in the video, she said: “Sustainability hack of the year! Shower in your jeans. Trust the process.”
The video has racked up more than 1.3 million views with hundreds of comments.
Many people claimed it wasn’t as bizarre as it seemed, saying they used to do it “back in the day”.
“Did this all the time in the 70s,” one person commented.
Another added: “It was a well known trick to take a bath in your tight jeans back in the day!”
A third said: “I think this trick was lost for a while since it’s become so normal to put elastic in denim. I usually size down one size in true denim and do this.”
One person claimed a Levi’s store used to have a hot tub for customers to sit in with their jeans.
“Used to be able to buy jeans at the Levi’s store and sit in a hot tub with them on so they custom fit,” they said.
However, other users weren’t impressed with the hack.
“Would love to try this but the thought of being in wet jeans makes my skin scrawl,” one person wrote.
A second added: “The idea of peeling off soaked jeans is so unappealing though.”
A third said: “I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to get my jeans off after showering with them on”
