Bishop Auckland retired nurse cancels Conservative Party membership as Rishi Sunak becomes Prime Minister

A retired nurse has joined a number of Conservative Party supporters in cancelling their party memberships following the announcement that Rishi Sunak is to be Prime Minister.

Lyn Bond, from Bishop Auckland, sent an email to cancel her membership after it was confirmed that the MP for Richmond will lead the party.

The 60-year-old, who has voted Conservative since she was 18, said she feels as though the party "has been destroyed from within". She described Mr Sunak's rise to Prime Minister as "insidious", adding that party members feel like they "don't know what's going on behind the scenes".
