A 12-year-old boy has been charged with sexual assault and wounding after a woman in her 60s was found seriously injured at a residence in Birmingham’s Duddeston area.
The victim was discovered on Kellett Road at around 6:15 pm on March 18. She remains in critical condition in hospital, police confirmed.
Minor accused faces multiple charges
The boy, who cannot be identified due to legal protections for minors, was arrested shortly after the incident.
Authorities have since charged him with wounding and sexual assault.
In a disturbing development, he also faces additional charges linked to separate incidents, including theft and intentional strangulation following an alleged confrontation with another woman last month.
Court appearance and ongoing probe
The accused has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before Birmingham Youth Court.
Police say investigations are ongoing as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
West Midlands Police acknowledged the alarm caused by the case, stating that officers are maintaining a visible presence in the area to reassure residents.
Officials have urged anyone with information about suspicious activity around March 18, or in the days leading up to it, to come forward.
Authorities have directed the public to share relevant details through official channels, including the Major Incident Public Portal or by contacting police via 101, citing the case reference.
