Birmingham confirm plan for Manchester United's Hannibal Mejbri ahead of January window

Birmingham have confirmed they could give Hannibal Mejbri a break after the Manchester United youngster played at the World Cup.

Hannibal, 19, represented Tunisia at the World Cup in Qatar but his nation failed to progress from the group stage. The midfielder has now returned to England and he will head back to Championship club Birmingham, where he's currently on loan.

The Championship season resumes at the weekend and Birmingham are set to play Blackpool on Saturday, but Hannibal could be unavailable for selection, as manager John Eustance has revealed the youngster could now be given a break.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last month that United are considering recalling Ethan Laird, Amad and Hannibal, with senior sources saying the needs of the first-team take precedence amid possible squad adjustments in the New Year.

Birmingham have just four games to play until the January window opens and it's possible that fans at St. Andrew's could see Hannibal in action for just a few more matches, with United currently mulling over whether to recall him.

“Krystian is still not back yet, he will be coming in on Wednesday. Hannibal just came in today [Tuesday]," Eustace said about the loanee this week. "We will have to assess where they are. Obviously they have been training and playing, which is great.

"But again it would have taken a lot out of the boys. We will have to look at them on Thursday to see if they will be available on Saturday. We will be open minded if they need a break, we have got to assess their fitness.

"The lads who have been here the last two or three weeks have been working exceptionally hard. The most important thing for me is we get as many players back in the group who are fit and ready to go.”
