Birmingham City boss comments on Lyle Taylor future after Nottingham Forest transfer

Boss Lee Bowyer says any conversations about trying to keep Nottingham Forest loanee Lyle Taylor at Birmingham City beyond this season will be left until the summer.

The striker joined the Blues on loan last month in search of regular game time, having been struggling to get that at the City Ground.

His future with the Reds is uncertain, with his contract set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

But while he has quickly made an impact in the West Midlands, Bowyer has been coy about whether he will look to tie Taylor down beyond this term.

Asked if the situation could change, he told BirminghamLive: “I dunno, we have just got to enjoy the time that he is here now.

"Hopefully he keeps getting goals for us and helping us pick up points, and that’s a discussion we will have to have in the summer.

“For now I am just looking forward to working with him again and hope that he keeps doing what he is doing.”

Taylor has netted two in two since his switch to Birmingham, scoring against Derby County on his debut and then following that up with a goal against Sheffield United last Friday.

Bowyer has been pleased with the forward’s contribution so far.

“He couldn’t have done much more with the chances he has had - he has had three and scored two. I think he has been very good since he has been here,” he said.

“He has given the place a lift and shown the reason why I wanted to bring him here.

“He is a good lad, a good character, he will have a laugh and a joke like most players but when it’s the right time to do that.

"And when you step on to the pitch, whether it’s training or match day, then he switches on, he becomes the professional you see in matches.

“He has brought a lot - and for other players to see him, the goals you have seen him score, we are seeing it every day in training.

“He has upped the ante with the strikers, ‘look, for me to get in the side I have got to do this’. He has definitely improved us with more competition for places.”
