A company which operated a casino in Birmingham has gone into administration. Clockfair ran Broadway Casino, at the Broadway Plaza complex in Edgbaston, but suffered after trade failed to return to pre-pandemic levels once covid lockdown restrictions had eased, according to administrators from Kroll.
Matthew Ingram and Elizabeth Welch, from the firm's Birmingham office, are now looking after its affairs.
Kroll said in a statement: "The casino was forced to close its doors during the covid-19 pandemic, in accordance with government guidelines, which had an immediate impact on its finances.
"Customer footfall at the casino did not return to pre-covid levels impacting on its working capital and ability to pay its debts. The joint administrators were subsequently engaged to identify a potential purchaser for the business and assets via an accelerated merger and acquisition process.
"Following an extensive marketing period, no offers were received to acquire the company, on either an insolvent or solvent basis which culminated in the casino ceasing to trade at the end of December."
Administrators are currently selling the available assets of the company for the benefit of creditors.
