A new Post Office is set to open in Birkenhead town centre this summer.
Wirral’s largest town centre lost its permanent Post Office in June 2021, when the town’s WH Smith store in which it was located closed down. The town was left without a Post Office for more than five months after that.
Last November, a temporary Post Office opened on 6 Princes Pavement in the town centre, but will close on July 7. Just a day after that, a new branch will open up and this time it will remain as a permanent facility.

The branch will open just a few doors away from the current one, at 2 Princes Pavement. Between now and July the premises will be fully refurbished and will host a convenience and stationery store, as well as a Post Office.
The new Post Office will open from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5.30pm, and on Saturdays from 9am until 12pm. It will be closed on Sundays.
Karl Haddon, network provision lead at the Post Office, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to residents and businesses and we are delighted to soon be opening a permanent Post Office for Birkenhead in central Birkenhead.
“We are keen to restore a permanent Post Office to this community as soon as possible in nearby premises, so we have decided to go ahead with our plans.”
