Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary: The Uttarakhand Himalayan Forest With Panoramas and No Crowds

What Binsar Actually Is

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary covers 47.08 square kilometres of the Jhandi Dhar ridge in Almora district, Kumaon, at an altitude that tops out near 2,420 metres above sea level. The Forest Department declared it a sanctuary in 1988, primarily to protect the broadleaf forest rather than a single flagship species. That decision shaped everything about how the place feels today. There are no tiger-counting jeep safaris, no spotlit watering holes, no resort strips built around a single charismatic animal. The sanctuary is managed as a forest first. Visitors come second.
