Biltmore Estate, a prominent landmark in Asheville, North Carolina, has announced a generous donation of $2 million to aid in the recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Helene. The estate, which attracts 1.4 million visitors annually, is establishing the 'Biltmore Relief Fund for WNC' to provide financial assistance to those in need.
The relief fund will offer support to individuals facing crises, assist area non-profits engaged in the region's recovery, and contribute to overall recovery initiatives. Buncombe County, where Biltmore Estate is located, experienced unexpected levels of destruction from the storm, with at least 72 fatalities reported and numerous individuals still missing.
While the 8,000-acre estate sustained significant damage to some structures and unfortunately lost several animals during the storm, the iconic Biltmore House emerged largely unscathed. Despite the challenges posed by storm-related closures and infrastructure issues, the estate is actively engaged in supporting emergency response teams, employees, and local non-profit organizations.
With approximately 2,400 employees, Biltmore Estate is currently closed to the public, and the timeline for reopening remains uncertain. Biltmore's President and CEO, Bill Cecil, Jr., emphasized the estate's commitment to assisting employees and the community in the aftermath of the storm, stressing the importance of collective efforts in stabilizing and rebuilding the affected areas.
The estate's contribution underscores the resilience and solidarity of the Asheville community in facing the impacts of Tropical Storm Helene, highlighting the importance of collaboration and support in times of crisis.
