American actor and singer Billy Porter says Harry Styles was the wrong person to be the first man in a dress on a Vogue cover - insisting he pioneered the fashion trend.

In an interview with The Sunday Times ahead of the release of his newest memoir, Unprotected: A Memoir Porter assumed credit for men wearing clothing such as skirts and dresses noting that he “changed the whole game.”

“I was the first one doing it and now everybody is doing it,” Porter told the outlet.

Porter also said that he believes the fashion industry welcomed him because “they have to.”

“I created the conversation [about non-binary fashion] and yet Vogue still put Harry Styles, a straight white man, in a dress on their cover for the first time,” he added.

Styles hasn’t publicly put a name on his sexuality, but he has been a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community.

Throughout the years, Styles also stood out from the crowd because of his lavish outfit ensembles, explaining to Vogue that he doesn’t like to box himself in when it comes to fashion.

But Porter, who insisted that he wasn’t dragging the singer, went on: “He doesn’t care, he’s just doing it because it’s the thing to do.”

Porter said that he had to work hard his entire life to get where he is today and be respected and all Styles has to do is be “white and straight.”

Last November, Vogue received criticism over Styles’ cover from Candace Owens, a conservative commentator and LGBTQ+ community members who said the fashion outlet was focusing on a white, cisgender man in a movement mostly spearheaded by transgender people of color.

Unprotected:A Memoir, is set to be released on October 19.
