Billy Gilmour told he needs to 'reignite himself' as Brighton minutes limited for ex-Rangers starlet

Billy Gilmour has been told he needs to find a club to 'reignite himself' after struggling for minutes at Brighton following his move from Chelsea.

Former Celtic striker and talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino believes the former Rangers youngster needs to find a club boss who wants him and is able to recognise his biggest strengths as a player and restore the confidence that brought out a man of the match display at the Euros in a Wembley stalemate between Scotland and England.

The 21-year-old, who has been a mainstay in Steve Clarke's international set-up, has found himself mainly on the bench or picking up the odd minutes here and there at the Seagulls with Roberto De Zerbi's side in top form and it proving a challenge for the midfielder to force himself into the starting plans. That has left Cascarino questioning his future and whether he should be looking to leave the club he only joined in the summer. Speaking to MyBettingSites, he said: "A young man can get lost at times. You need managers and coaches to have trust in you. Going on loan can be brilliant for some players but for others it can be a frustrating period.

"Billy Gilmour needs someone to want him. Billy somehow has to find a way to get coaches to recognise what his biggest strengths are and he needs to find his confidence again.

"It can't have been easy for him at Brighton because he just can’t get in the team. So he needs to find somewhere to reignite himself but where that is I just don’t know.

"He’s unlucky because the midfield players at Brighton have performed so well. He’s been to Norwich and not played as much as he would have liked and he just can’t get a look-in at Brighton.

"I was there at the England-Scotland game in the Euros and he was terrific – held his own in good company and I think everyone came away impressed so we all know there’s a great player there.

"He might not be the biggest but he is a feisty competitor as well as a very good technical player."
