The midfielder ran himself into the ground and helped Roberto De Zerbi's side win 3-0 at the Emirates, all but ending a title bid by the Gunners. Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan goals settled the game in North London and puts Brighton on course for a crack at European football after a terrific season.
Steve Clarke's midfield star was subbed off after an hour and some think Arsenal boss Arteta even hooked his midfield duo of Jorginho and Xhaka after tactical efforts to stop Gilmour's role proved futile. One said 'Both De Zerbi and Arteta are making a focused effort to man mark both regista's and force other players to control play' and another believed 'Billy Gilmour put on an absolute clinic out here that Arteta hauled off Xhaka & Jorginho in a double sub.'
'Jorginho was bullied by Billy Gilmour until Arteta took him out' was the opinion of another fan. 'Billy Gilmour stopped Arsenal from playing football at home' was one more opinion on an fantastic day for Brighton.
Gilmour joined Brighton in the summer transfer window from Chelsea, after the former Rangers kid found regular minutes hard to come by in London. He has had to be patient but has now worked his way into De Zerbi's plans.
