Billy Gilmour has opened up on his chat with David Weir that secured his move to Brighton as he named his key aim for the new season.
The former Rangers kid made the switch to the Seagulls last summer from Chelsea to join Graham Potter's side, only for his new boss to move in the opposite direction weeks later. Roberto De Zerbi came in and game-time was limited for the Scotland international due to the form of the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo.
However, Gilmour was handed his big break against Wolves and he earned plaudits for his performance in the demolition job. He was then pitched in to face Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United recently - with his assist at St James' Park setting tongues wagging on social media.

Brighton will be playing European football for the first time ever next season and barring a major collapse involving a 16 goal swing, that will be in the Europa League. It's an exciting time to be at the Amex and the 21-year-old hopes to have a great pre-season and start next season strongly with his main aim to be a regular in the side.
On Weir's role in his transfer, he said: “I knew David from my time at Rangers. He explained everything about the club, and what I heard was really good. Everything he said, the plan in place, what the club are striving for, it just really appealed.
“I played against Brighton last season, it was a tough game and it was a squad I wanted to be part of. I’m so happy with my decision and I’m enjoying it here.”
He added: “I want to come back, have a great pre-season and hopefully start the season strongly.
“To play regularly for Brighton is the aim. It’s difficult when you’re not playing regularly, any footballer would say the same. You can train as much as you want but there’s nothing like playing the actual games.
“I started the Wolves match recently and knew I was ready for it as I’d trained well. I played fine in the game but the next week against Man United I felt my legs going just after half-time, and that fatigue was a result of not playing regularly.
“Hopefully I’ll finish the season strong playing more games.”
