Billy Gilmour in Scotland fitness sweat ahead of Ukraine play-off clash

Billy Gilmour in Scotland fitness sweat ahead of Ukraine play-off clash

BILLY GILMOUR has emerged as a fitness doubt for Scotland's play-off match against Ukraine after suffering an ankle knock.

The Chelsea midfielder has returned to his parent club for an assessment after rolling his ankle while at Norwich.

Canaries boss Dean Smith confirmed the minor injury as he previewed his side's match against Tottenham.

However, while Gilmour is now a question mark for the World Cup play-off semi-final at Hampden next month - Smith refused to rule out a quick-fire return.

Instead, Smith insisted he'll await information from Chelsea on the severity of the knock.

Speaking on Gilmour's fitness, Smith said: "Billy Gilmour rolled his ankle and has gone back to Chelsea for an assessment today.

"We’ll wait and see if he gets back or not."

Scotland take on Ukraine in the World Cup play-off semi-final on June 1.

Should Scotland win then it'll set up a final against Wales for a place in the World Cup finals in Qatar.

The winners of Scotland and Ukraine will take on Wales in Cardiff on June 5.
