Chelsea have extended Billy Gilmour's contract until the summer of 2024 after the club exercised an option in the midfielder's contract. The Scotland international spent last season on loan at Norwich City and it's still unknown at this point what his plans for next term are.
A statement from the club reads: "Chelsea Football Club has exercised an option to extend Billy Gilmour’s contract until 2024. The midfielder, who spent this past season on loan at Norwich City, will remain at the Bridge for at least two more years. Gilmour has 22 Chelsea appearances to his name and turned 21 on Saturday."
The 21-year-old midfielder had a largely unsuccessful loan spell at Norwich last season. Gilmour featured 24 times for the Canaries in the Premier League but was unable to help the side stay in the division.

Gilmour has shown while playing for Chelsea, though, that he does indeed have brilliant potential. The midfielder has often played in the 'number six' role for the Blues where his passing has done the talking.
"When you’re playing deeper, you’re more likely to go and receive the ball from the defenders, dictate play, create opportunities and also protect the defence," Gilmour said to Chelsea's official website last year. "It’s similar in the number eight position but you’re doing it in a more attacking sense where you need to make the box and make more forward runs.
"I don’t really have a preference. I enjoy playing both positions. I’ll happily do whatever I’m asked to do because I know that I’ve done both in my career so far."
